Generalization Second Order Macroscopic Traffic Models via Relative Velocity of the Congestion Propagation

چکیده
This paper presents a generalized second-order hydrodynamic traffic model. Its central piece is the expression for relative velocity of congestion (compression wave) propagation. We show that well-known models Payne–Whitham, Aw–Rascal and Zhang are all special cases featured model, their properties fully defined by how expressed. The proposed model verified with data from segment Interstate 580 freeway in California, USA, collected California DOT’s Performance Measurement System (PeMS).

Data-Fitted Second-Order Macroscopic Production Models
Starting from discrete event simulations based on sampled data we simulate the interplay between product density and flux. Data-fitting helps to determine the right parameters for clearing functions to close first and second order conservation laws. For the first order case well-known relations from M/M/1-queuing theory can be reproduced and numerically extended to transient behavior. To includ...
متن کاملA Second-Order Lagrangian Macroscopic Traffic Flow Model for Freeways
A macroscopic traffic flow model describes the evolution of aggregated traffic characteristics over time and space, which is a basic and critical component for various modern intelligent transportation systems, e.g., a real-time freeway control system. Traditional macroscopic traffic flow models are built in the Eulerian coordinates using Eulerian traffic characteristics, such as density, speed...
متن کاملResurrection of "Second Order" Models of Traffic Flow
We introduce a new “second order” model of traffic flow. As noted in [C. Daganzo, Requiem for second-order fluid with approximation to traffic flow, Transportation Res. Part B, 29 (1995), pp. 277–286], the previous “second order” models, i.e., models with two equations (mass and “momentum”), lead to nonphysical effects, probably because they try to mimic the gas dynamics equations, with an unre...
متن کاملAssessment of macroscopic models of Traffic Flow
The work discussed in this paper consists of a statistical assessment of various finite difference schemes for approximating macroscopic models of traffic flow. Using VISSIM we simulated traffic flow on a section of a freeway with arbitrary characteristics. VISSIM is a traffic flow simulator that uses a microscopic model for traffic. By using data from a microscopic simulation, we are able dete...
متن کاملGeneric second-order macroscopic traffic node model for general multi-input multi-output road junctions via a dynamic system approach
This paper addresses an open problem in traffic modeling: the second-order macroscopic node problem. A second-order macroscopic traffic model, in contrast to a first-order model, allows for variation of driving behavior across subpopulations of vehicles in the flow. The second-order models are thus more descriptive (e.g., they have been used to model variable mixtures of behaviorally-different ...
